Cricket - T20

Cricket has come a long way and have seen so many ups and downs. Today I was watching the T20 game on Sunday evening and thought there are so many criticisms hovering around this shorter format of the game but then there are also lots of positives that have come out in this format. Cricket as one of the most popular game in the world and I guess after football it’s the next game that had second largest fan following. Especially in India where every kid at one point must have handed a bat or a ball to play cricket, be it in a gully or at cricket grounds. It’s the most popular game in India for sure and we see kids do consider seriously in making a career out of it. Initially it all started with a five day game and the first one known by all of us played between Australia and England. From there on it carried and more team joins in and before it was realized to have another format of the game that will decide on the result in just one day and will create a bit of excitement among people. This lead to the emergence of “One Day” cricket. Initially we had sixty overs to be bowled by each side and that time we had some great players like Bradman, Sobers, Dennis Lilley, Laker, etc which are still remembered as greats and no one came closer in terms of the quality they had with their play. Then the one day games cut short to fifty overs but by that time we already had three World Cups played in which two of them won by the mighty West Indies and the third finals was won by India in a thriller. I was just one year when India lifted the World Cup at Lords.
During those years of Test and One Day we had different other versions of the game (three days, four days) played by domestic teams. Cricket was losing its charm as there were days of domination Australia & England ruled the Test Cricket during the early days and West Indies were just too powerful to be beaten in one day game. But slowly other teams emerged but still people were more interested in watching few tournaments like the World Cup or ‘The Ashes’ series. There comes some great minds who thought that in this busy world where people now have no time to sit at the stadium to watch an entire day of cricket for five consecutive days during test or a single day for a One Day it was a requirement to even shorten the limited overs cricket in order to have more drama and twist & turns. Though I still feel the Test Cricket will remain the best cricket you will ever see. There you get the real talent and that actually matures any cricketer whoever wants to play this game with more commitment and passion. I don’t exactly remember who played the first T20 game and I don’t want to look into Google as that really doesn’t matter to me. But it really came into spot light with the T20 World cup played in 2007 and India under a new leader called the “long haired” Dhoni (called MS, Mahi by people)w won that competition. After that every series and any team that travelled included that format in their schedule. This not only increases the number of spectator coming and watching the game but it also adds a lot of excitement to it.
In test or one day you have a time to think and can make corrections to your mistakes but in T20 you hardly have a time. One good over here and there and you consider yourself on a losing side. Also these shorter versions played roughly in 200 mins are the time that could be bought from the people coming to watch. In India any good movie lasts atleast three hours so people now have a choice to either see a long romantic movie of SRK, or to watch an exciting game of T20 cricket.
Though this shorter version is criticized hugely because of many reasons the one being the invention of IPL (Indian Premier League) which is based in lines with the Football leagues played across different countries. IPL involves the formation of different club teams from India (based on states) and players from India (both from Ranji, International and under 19 years) and foreign players are included to form a team. This brings in a lot of money and players are bought by the franchise with huge amount which they will get just playing for a month. This format was designed for Indian players so as to get new talents which will represent India at the international level. Surely with this we got some very good players who have done well at the international level and also for other foreign players that have left a mark and got in their international teams. But one thing everyone forgot that a player playing in a T20 game hardly gains much experience to play quality shots and stay at the crease for longer time. Every over, every ball changes the face of the game and if you are batting you always have one thing in mind to score every ball, to hit every ball. If you are bowling you want to take wickets. This ideally doesn’t works out in a fifty over format and surely not in a longer version. Also now a day more T20 games are played sacrificing the test and this is leading to people move away the interest from the longer version. Previously we see career of a cricketer ten, fifteen years but now we hardly see any new comer playing tests for long time. Also a lot of T20 match means injury can happen quite often and that will lead cricketer out of action or not healthier enough to play One day or Test. We have seen so many players retiring from Test in order to continue their career for shorter version of the game, though we know the real reason of doing so.
Well I didn’t intend to say so much against this shorter version of the game but there is no point which I made wrong. But there are few things which are on the positive side which this version has given. When the format of IPL introduced we saw players from different countries sharing the same dressing room. This gave youngsters not only a chance to see their idols sitting in the same room but also having a chance of learning from them. Playing with such greats gave those young players a lot of confidence. Be it local Indian guy or foreigner, it’s such a wonderful sight to see players with a different mix, different backgrounds, styles, regions, culture in same team and bonding together. It has given a new dimension to this game and now everyone wants to see it live wherever the game is played. Apart from that it added two more important things. Previously cricket was known as gentlemen’s game but with this new format a bit of glamour is also attached. We see not only cricket but also entertainment along with cricket. Cheerleaders which we only see in a Rugby or American Football games are now an important part of this game. Celebrities coming to promote T20 and wanting to cash in with this newer version is also very common now a days. Also with this, a lot of cash is flown and that is benefitting the cricketers and though won’t be wise to say but they are given a fair price for their service and passion they showed for cricket. T20 now stands close to any other football leagues when it comes to money and the way cricketers are earning have boosted this game and the interest towards it.
I though personally like T20 as it saves time, give more excitement and get to see players scoring big runs (international teams or clubs). But still I am a fan of Test cricket and One Dayers and want that to continue along with T20. Though the governing body should put in some rules that will make sure to keep the importance of the longer versions (both Test & One Days) and encourage teams to play it along with T20. Test cricket is also going a revival with results coming out in almost every game and an indirect credit surely goes to T20. We as a cricket fans should love the game and keep away ourselves from the politics/controversies hovering around and also hope that the players first keep their country ahead of any other lucrative/physical/personal gains.
CRICKET ROCKS…

The JOB

It’s the job... Why I am the only one
finally passed the school and thought
will do something good with my life,
got into Engg college with a good hard work and Luck
Impressed seeing the college and the ppl around
Seeing the Professors with bald look
taking a sharp look, scaring us if we don’t follow the rules
Well it was just a matter of few months
We all got in the same bunch of Donkeys & Monkeys
First treated like that by Seniors and now by the life...

During four years of Engg I realized I am not on right track
But didn’t dare to change the track
Thought why 3 Idiots didn’t came few years back
When I was in college and can think of doing something else
Also there was no friend like Rancho, neither Raju
I consider myself as Farhan and really became Farhanitrate
it was all theory we were taught
and when asked the definition of Machine, I was shocked

Well finally passed all the Sems with decent enough marks
Then thought will that be enough to get a good job
thinking what will do in the interview when called
How am I gonna fool the person sitting around
Failed in few interviews and the tension grew on
Lecture from Parents made it all worst and wrong
Thought that time will do something for this
Left the home in search of the job I need

Then saw another story at a new place
If you are not selected in campus,
you are considered Second grade...
But when you see people can’t speak properly
and getting marks surprisingly in 90's
I was shocked and scared to see
How I am gonna compete with such on paper Gates & Steve
Finally a lucky day had come and I was with a job in my hand

Another turn to the story, when I entered the company
Taught another lesson to be quick,
else there are many to step onto you for glory
The work is surely important, but smartness rules
Being honest is no good but buttering will do
Straightforwardness will kill you and Diplomacy will save you
Taking polite is what you should do,
Making the most out of your interest is what you aim
Don’t be shy in licking the Butt and Brain

Intelligence is what will keep you motivated
But money is what will make you happy
This is the industry that follow these rules
To earn more n more money is what all we look
This surely kills the inner you
and you then follow in the herd of such unknown
Dreams are killed and you live without the Aim
This is what happen to me in the Job I AM
don’t you all trap yourself like millions are
It’s just a job don’t let it become your Boss...

To all my fellow ppl...

Mother's Day

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom's
We cant thank you for your sacrifices,
we cant compare your hard work
we cant think of doing extra like you do
we cant praise the people like you do
you are considered close to God
you are actually an image of God on this Earth
you are complete within and you are everything
I am so happy that i have you
I am so proud that i am called the son of you
Maybe i havent done justice to your love
But i will try to be the best son you could have
Wish me luck and pray for me
And i pray to God that you will always be there for me
Love you Mom... To All the Mother & the Mother Land we live in...

Udaan

It was a normal day at the office on Friday. I finished my work and came home. Got myself fresh and prepared a cup of tea and laid down on my bed watching TV. That day I got a movie from my friend and planned to watch at night. In 2010 there were very few movies in Hindi I personally watched some of them were horrible to bear while some were a good time pass. But the one movie that impressed me a lot which I was supposed to watch that night was “Udaan”. I didn’t heard of that movie or saw any promo Ads on TV or posters but came to know from word of mouth. I then checked its rating first on Rediff and I was surprised. Usually for such normal budget movie you won’t find good ratings, not sure if those get money to provide good reviews. I then checked IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase – www.imdb.com) and made myself sure that this movie has something to offer. I was prepared to saw that movie and it was pitch dark in my room and the only light I could see is of my laptop and the movie. I didn’t got up from my place or you say that the movie didn’t allow me to go anywhere and I was carefully watching the movie. For those who have seen the movie and are of the category like me will first of all appreciate the people and the way they have played their characters. The movie was not only about a relationship of a father son, or the emptiness in the life of people or following your dreams. It’s much more to understand that for each one it’s important to know what they are capable of and what they can do. I don’t say that in order to follow your dreams you always go beyond because in a country like India we as a kid always taught to become something in life. What I mean something is studying hard, become an Engineer or doctor and earn thousands of rupees/dollars and earn a comfy life. But there are hardly people who actually follow their dreams and in the movie its shown very beautifully. A kid who want to become a writer, want to learn literature was forced to join engineering college and the result as expected was a mess in his life. But he eventually learn that what he was doing is right and went on against his father to pursue his dreams. Also in bits it was shown that doing that its also important to enjoy life in bits and pieces and never just indulge yourself completely because those small happiness in the path of your goal will always motivate you to approach faster. Also at the end of the day if you taste failure atleast you will have those moments to cherish and will lift you up and make you confident for the second attempt. We say movies and TV spoil people but not always correct, it’s the person’s view what he takes from that and the movies like these will definitely inspires the young generation to do something worth with their life. It’s a change world today wherein your parents understands the importance of individual excellence and gives them freedom to achieve what they want. Sometimes there are various factors that might restrict your progress the dominant being money but if you are worth of your passion then for sure nothing can stop you.
A lesson to all the young is to follow your dreams some day so that when you lay on your death bed one day atleast you will be happy of atleast one moment of living your life your own way. And if you are able to do it consistently then you feel yourself lucky enough to born in this world. To all the great parents, its time not to pose your dreams onto your children’s as they already have one which they want to achieve. Instead be a supporter rather than restrictor. If your kid want to follow your dreams and it’s the same as you want then you are lucky if not then also you are lucky. The important things are to know what they want and make sure they have a dream, a goal and a passion to achieve that. In the end I just want to say, fly like you have wings because the air is never gonna end and no one can take your wings away…

How much we will Fall???

Today we have a question for all
How much we will fall? How much we will fall?
today we walk on the road of progress
still the progress is far from most of us all
we found the water on moon and we take proud
still millions of people drink the poison water around
we spend billions of rupees on making a missile
and the same is used against the innocent people and dies
one side of people never gets down from cars and planes
other side walk several miles to earn to earn few in pain

We go abroad and say proudly we are Indians
We follow all the rules and their regulations
but in the same country we don’t care about the policies
and when questioned we say we live in a democracy
we cry for all the rights we have got, but when comes to follow we hide in our house
we happily spend hundreds in our pizzas & burgers
but giving a rupee to needy is when our heart becomes baggers’
we say we the people of India are brothers and Sisters
But fights for the piece of land to build Masjids and Mandirs
we elect the wrong people for the wrong reasons
then we say all politicians are thieves and burglars
if we are happy we don’t care,
that’s what we have become in today’s affair
It’s not about an individual or a group,
but it’s for all to think what and where we are and which way to go
How much we can fall does not matter now
but how much we can rise does matter to many more.
today we have a question for all...
how much we will fall? how much we will fall?

Childhood is a Dream

Childhood is a dream when we realize after 18
no rules, no boundaries, we move wihtout regulations
No sense of selfishness and no sense of greed
we make friends wihtout any need
we love our parents and they love us more
we get nice and big bunch of lollys and cars
For us time is no limit and we are active from morning till night
Sometimes our mother runs behind to hide us in our bed

We make a group of 10 and play ice spice for hours
we play cricket and all sports wihout getting tired
we hide mud and chalk and eat when no one around
when caught we blame our friends for the shout
when we get slap we encashed with our father
the more we cry the more we get toys
this is so wonderful to realize our old days
Childhood is a dream when we realize after 18

The Twinkle Twinkle we still remember that we learned in our class
still we laugh when humpty dumpty falls
we question our teachers why baba had a black sheep
and smiles when Johny was asked to open his mouth
those moments were small but we remember them big
thats the beauty of childhood we now miss
there is still a child in you, its time in todays world when we see it through
Childhood is a dream when we realize after 18

Wake up!!!

It’s not just another day; it’s not just a holiday
It’s our Independence Day, It’s our Independence Day
How many of us realize the importance of this day?
How many actually feel to celebrate this day?
We celebrate our religious festival with joy & Cheer
But why can’t we celebrate the day which represents our identity?
Why can’t we think of raising our head high and salute to our flag?
Why can’t we distribute sweets and help people on this day?
Why we plan going out with our family to serve our personal cause?
Why we always want that day to come on a weekday? Especially Friday or Monday…
Is this what we should do? Is this we call ourselves Indians?
Wake up brothers & Sisters, Wake Up

We know how hard it was for the people, who got us this freedom,
How our freedom fighters cash in their lives for this,
How our forefathers are involved in the freedom struggle,
How the torture many people took with proud for our country,
It was so hard but they got united for a single cause,
The cause to have their children breathe the air of freedom,
To make our country stand on its own and compete with others.
The struggle not just started sixty three years back, but long
So for such a long struggle can’t we give one day?
A day for them, a day for the Country
Wake up brothers & Sisters Wake Up

We do love our country but we don’t want to spend time
We praise our country when we go abroad,
We follow all the rules there but the same we violate in ours
We criticize our leaders today, but don’t take time to go and vote
We curse our system but never take an opportunity to do something
We say India is going from bad to worse, but forget who is behind
In the name of Democracy we do all sorts of things
Today we criticize corruption but appreciate when it comes to you
To get our things done we cross all boundaries of illegality
We just think about ourselves and just ourselves,
So if we are like that then can we do something for our country?
Think & Wake up brothers & Sisters Wake Up

We have reached the moon but still follow the bad old custom
We are the most talented minds in the world
But still show stupidity when feed the division of castes
The girls are walking along with guys,
But on the same side we kill our sisters and burn for Dowry
We spend hours on the internet, but don’t care about our neighbors
We spend money on burgers but don’t care to give a rupee to the needy
We became so mean and we never care for it.
What happened to us? Wake up brothers & Sisters, Wake Up

It’s not all that bad we are and our country is the best
We have people on one side who help people
We are the only country that has so many great people
We had Gandhi Ji who taught us non violence & selfless
We had Vivekananda who was among the most talented person
We had Tagore Ji who taught us what love is
We had Mother Teresa who taught us how to live life for others
The list goes on and they all are the people we can learn from
Let’s take an oath on this day and do something for the country
Let’s bring our brothers & sisters together and fight against
Corruption, autocracy, terrorism, regionalism, selfishness.
Let’s take an oath to be the true citizens of India
And let’s pray that we grow and so as our country grow.
We salute to our freedom fighters and we salute to the soldiers securing our borders
We salute to all those doing good for our country and making one
We are one and each one can bring a difference to this Country
Share and teach, love and respect, care and comfort, that what we call India
Happy Independence Day to my brothers & Sisters
Happy Independence Day!!!
